a statement in the mail for your balance left. If you haven’t got it yet you’ll be getting it soon, look out
for it!

Project Graduation:

Project graduation is a post-graduation all-night alcohol/drug-free celebration. More information will
be sent home in the End of Year packet. We’re able to attend this event at no charge, and can invite
one guest for $25. Project graduation is put on by the parents, so if y’all want to do anything after
graduation make sure you get your parents involved.

SENIORS GET READY TO MAKE THE BEST OF OUR LAST! C/O 2012

Last Monday, Mckeel’s seniors participated in the annual senior picnic. For over 15 years, the senior team has organized picnics for the students to enjoy the nice weather, spend time with friends, and celebrate the fact that they would be graduating soon. While the first picnic planned for the class of 2012 was canceled due to bad weather, the rescheduled picnic continued without any issues. Students could be found choosing from a wide selection of food in the pavillion, playing volleyball or football, or simply chatting with their classmates. I interviewed Annette Riddle about her thoughts on the senior picnic:

Me: Did you enjoy yourself at the senior picnic?
Annette: I did! I’m actually glad that it was rescheduled. It made my Monday a lot better.

Me: How did you spend most of your time?
Annette: I mostly just talked with my friends.

Me: Do you think that the senior picnic is a tradition worth repeating?
Annette: Definitely!

The big question for seniors is what am I going to do after high school? Most seniors are applying for colleges and making plans for a job or career. There are a lot of steps that you need to do to get into a good college now a days. You have to take your SAT and ACT all the applications to colleges. Being prepared by the end of your senior year is the way to go. I asked a fellow senior Hunter Greene about what he has done for college and what his plans are after high school to get his life started.

-Taylor “Are you applying to colleges right now?”
-Hunter “Yes, quite a few.”
-Taylor “Have you took your ACT or SAT yet?”
-Hunter “Well I have taken my ACT and I am waiting to take the SAT.”
-Taylor “Do you plan on going to any specific college?”
- Hunter “Right now I am really wanting to go to University of Florida.”
-Taylor “What are your education plans after High School?”
-Hunter ” Graduate college and study to be a firefighter.”
-Taylor “What year degree would you like to have”
-Hunter ” I am planning to get a 4 year degree.”

Being a senior is the big thing around Mckeel. There are many questions buzzing around.  Are the classes hard? Is it fun to be a senior? Does it fly by like everyone says it does? This week, we asked a fellow senior McKenzie Cafey about her  year.
Taylor – “Can you believe that its already your senior year?”
McKenzie- “No, I never thought it would come as fast as it did.”

Taylor- “What is your favorite part about being a senior?”
McKenzie- “Being the top dog on the campus and getting the respect we worked hard for.”

Taylor- ” What is your least favorite part about being a senior.”
McKenzie- “Filling out college applications.”

Taylor- “Are you ready to graduate?”
McKenzie- ” Yes, counting the days.. literally.”

Taylor- “What are you looking forward to your senior year?”
McKenzie- ” Graduation, and the keys trip!”

This week, seniors will be starting their eight weeks of internship. Almost all the seniors are doing this project and it takes a whole day out of school per week. We interviewed Kyle Schackne to see what his thoughts were on his internship project this year.

-Taylor “Are you excited about internship?”
- Kyle “Yes, it seems like a good experience for something I want to do when I get older.”
- Taylor “Where are you interning?”
- Kyle “FWC.”
- Taylor “Will taking time out of class hurt your grades?”
- Kyle “I hope it doesn’t, but I know that it will be a lot to make up.”
- Taylor “When is your first day?”
- Kyle “This Friday, all day”
- Taylor “Have you talked to the person you’re interning yet?”
-Kyle “Yep, we had a meeting last week.”

SAT/ACT dates were given in the “Senior Survival Guide” at the beginning of the year. Just in case you lost it, here they are:

SAT ($49, collegeboard.com) – Oct 1, Nov 5, Dec 3, Jan 28, Mar 10, May 5, June 2.

The last year of high school, your senior year. You are finally the “top dog” on school, you get to wear your red shirts and jeans any day you want to! Most people get the idea that your senior year is the easy year to slack off and get easy work because it’s your last year. Other people take it seriously because it is a big step into your college career and work as hard as they can. After working 12 years in school you get the big thrill of it being your last year and it goes by too fast for most people. I interviewed Alexis Corely a senior here at McKeel Academy to get her thoughts on her senior year.

Taylor: “How do you think your senior year will be?”
Alexis: “It will go by fast but good.”
Taylor: “What are your senior goals?”
Alexis: “To graduate with a good GPA.”
Taylor: “What are your senior expectations?”
Alexis: “To have fun, graduate, and make good grades.”
Taylor: “Are you proud to graduate from Mckeel?”
Alexis: “ Yes, because I know colleges will like it and looks good on my high school diploma.”
